If they have already converted from jamit, then it should be fairly easy, 800$ is bit expensive for my liking.
We need to import users/resume/custom fields and resume uploaded a import script will do the job, probably if one write such script he/she will make some good money.

I previously paid them to convert my site from Jamit to SJB but they were not successful. The database was moved over but no data was linked (eg: employer profiles were not linked to employer and cv's were not linked to candidate accounts).
I suggest you ask them who they "successfully" migrated a Jamit site for before paying for the work. It is possible that they have done this successfully since 2010 when I did mine but at that price I would want a guarantee that they can do it successfully. They charged me $250 back then for the database transfer and another $250 for a design transfer.
As a result of the unsuccessful transfer of data I have kept my site running on Jamit.
I do have another site which is running SJB and I must say it is a very good piece of software. As soon as I am able to transfer all data successfully, i will be moving my Jamit site over to SJB.

I would not be opposed to scrapping the deal with smartjobboard and paying to continue to develop Jamit. The problems I have with Smartjobboard is that there is no opt out in the mailings, news letter or job alerts. I can not afford any lengthy downtime or problems with the transfer so I appreciate your input, that is a lot of money and I will tell them to install it and get it transferred and when I am happy with it I will be glad to pay them.  Either way I would like to see Jamit continued, lets get serious about this and if we pool our resources for development we should be able to get a killer updated software out of this.

I have $1500 I will commit to further development of Jamit! Anyone else, if we pool our resources we should get one hell of a developer for the money.

I would suggest that those that contribute are issued a license key to prevent free distribution.

It is a good Idea to pool in some money and find a senior php developer who can enhance the already available functionalists and make the Jamit compatible with the latest PHP and MySQL versions.

To start with I suggest, every one to 1. find out the bugs/errors that exist in the current Jamit and make a list
2. Make a list of new features that needed for the new version.

After this we have to find a developer who can make these changes for a fixed agreeable amount.

Wow, $800 sounds a bit pricey for a migration without the software included. So far I also heard great things about smart job board but their price is a bit too much for me.

I'm probably coming in on this a bit late, but I'm running Jamit on my site, I like it, but the lack of support is killing me ... i'm not a programmer, and I'm a very basic level web designer, so when there is an issue, I end up digging around the files using a mixture of trial and error and google searches ... the results are not always great.

If there were a group getting together to fund an upgrade, and a user group established, I'd be happy to kick in a few bucks.

Where does everyone currently get help?

I've been working on a solution for transferring my database over to Smart Job Board. I'll probably get SJB this weekend and run a dummy site and test everything out. I expect it to go well.

Right now, without seeing the database structure for SJB, I have been able to create a new database that uses the import feature in the admin panel that can be found on the SJB demo site.

It will only import the job seeker and employer data, but for the most part that is all that is needed to kick start it. After I purchase SJB I can get in the database and figure out how to convert the rest of the necessary data.

UPDATE:

I had high hopes of converting my database. I have a program from a while back that takes a comma delimited feed and will write all the information to a webpage. Well, I treated my database like a data feed. I saved it as an excel file and then setup a new file as the output which should be the webpage. Instead I outputted it to a new database or excel file. I was able to output the data in the correct order to match the SJB user export file. I then took the new file and imported it. It seemed to import fine... all 3,900 user accounts. I then went into some of the accounts and started clicking around. I was getting fatal errors. The user accounts I created through the normal sign-up link all worked fine. The user accounts that I imported weren't working too well. I couldn't update the profiles etc....

I decided after almost a week of trial and error to just dump the idea. There is no telling what other problems might occur with the accounts. I decided that I would rather the user take a minute and sign up again than to have them leave in frustration thinking the site was broken and never come back.

I deleted the whole job site and the database and re-installed it from the beginning. I didn't want to take a chance that I may have caused some problems that would pop up in the future.

Smartjobboard looks good and is worth the extra money if you have the traffic to support it.

Good luck to all.
