sending out sms text messages as well as email

On my site I send out emails and follow up with text messages,I do this manually at the moment. They are identical in format and are indespensible for me now.

Text messaging is an enormous market, and my clients change their mobile phone numbers less frequently than their email address. So sending out text gets more attention than email messaging.

one draw back is texts are not free yet so there is a small charge but I plan to pass that on to the client. Big benefit that your site can work without the client using a computer as the client can text an answer back to the website.

I would like to be involve in producing a plug in that will provide this functionality automatically when messages go out, this would include a sms gateway, and compatability with Jamit. I am not a coder myself but can get this written, and wonder if anyone else is interested in sharing the cost ?

I started on Jamit today and am running through the posts.
I have had the idea of plug in for using twitter. I do not know about the rest of the world but Twitter is huge in the US.
It would be a good alternative to e-mail, just tweet when a new job is posted etc.

Good idea to have as well, but SMS texts is an alternative medium to lost email addresses, people change email addresses  more frequently than mobiles. people have mobiles with them and therefore more accessible.

I'm still using twitter see http://www.promotionbox.de/ and scroll to the bottom. With firefox browser and several plugins you can put informations in twitter very easy. But I agree with pilot, the risk to loose Emails is very high but everybody has a cell phone and I can reach people at once.

not only most users have mobiles,but also you can charge them for this service ,so its a source of generating revenue,which is v.important if your developing a business model for your job board and you think to sell it in the future

I totally agree and this is one addon that I also must have developed to work on my site as I also do this manually at the moment via skype but as I get more members its getting too labour intensive.  I dont mind paying for good software at all, or chipping in to have this developed, but I am not yet using jamit.  but being able to have this feature would definitely be a selling point.  I am tossing up on this software or another job board but the developer of jamit thought I may be better to use another piece of software that he also develops for, due to the photo manipulation we require as an actors/models job site.
